VCU to offer new program at School of Pharmacy

RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) -- Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU) will be launching an accelerated bachelor's and Pharm.D program for students attending the university.

According to VCU, the new program will allow students to graduate with both a pharmaceutical sciences degree and a professional Pharm.D in seven years, instead of the typical eight-year track.

The university said this will help to meet the demands of Virginia's pharmaceutical industry, creating more qualified pharmacists and pharmaceutical scientists sooner. It will also save students time and money.

VCU described the program on its website as follows:

"Our bachelor of science in pharmaceutical sciences program pairs a foundational education in basic and applied sciences with real-world learning experiences to provide a strong base to launch you into your pharmacy education. With the skills you gain in our undergraduate program in your first three years, you will be well prepared to enter training to become a pharmacist in our four-year Doctor of Pharmacy program.

This program saves you time, allowing you to complete both degrees one year sooner than a typical bachelor's and Pharm.D. program, and gives you the flexibility to pursue fulfilling careers as a pharmacist and scientist in roles spanning patient care, clinical development, pharmaceutical manufacturing and other exciting roles in the the pharmaceutical and life sciences industries." The program will be open to all students in the fall of 2025.
