Video threat against Patrick Copeland Elementary School deemed not credible

HOPEWELL, Va. (WRIC) -- After a threat was allegedly made against Patrick Copeland Elementary School in a YouTube video, Hopewell City Public Schools has announced that there is "no credible threat to the school."

In a social media post on Sunday, March 23, the school system said a parent alerted school officials to a YouTube video that made a threat against Patrick Copeland Elementary School for June 3.

The post said the school division's administration and school security team immediately began investigating, and a parent shared the video with the Hopewell Police Department.

Hopewell City Public Schools said the video had since been deleted, and though an investigation is ongoing, there is "no indication of an immediate threat at this time."

"As always, we take any threat seriously, and the safety of our students and staff remains our top priority," the school system said. "We encourage our community to continue reporting anything concerning."

In the afternoon on Monday, March 24, the school system provided an update that the source of the video was identified and there was "no credible threat to the school."
