Virginia inmate who ‘walked off’ prison property in Greensville was caught

GREENSVILLE COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) -- Authorities are searching for an inmate after he "walked off" prison property in Greensville County on Friday.

An inmate at Deerfield Men's Work Center #2 reportedly "walked off" a farm property within the Greensville County Correctional Complex at about 1:15 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 10, according to a press release from the Virginia Department of Corrections (VADOC).

Said inmate is currently serving a just under 3-year sentence for multiple nonviolent crimes, including grand larceny.

A few hours later, at about 5 p.m., VADOC announced that the inmate had been caught "not far from VADOC property."

“The VADOC thanks our dedicated corrections team and our law enforcement partners at Virginia State Police, the Greensville County Sheriff’s Office and Stafford County Sheriff’s Office who immediately jumped into action and demonstrated great partnership on this case,” said VADOC Director Chad Dotson in the release. “It is inspiring to see our public safety team come together in these critical moments to keep Virginians safe.”
