Virginia Museum of History and Culture unveiled new exhibit on foreign allies
RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) -- The Virginia Museum of History and Culture has opened a new exhibit for a limited time on foreign allies who helped America gain Independence.
The Virginia Museum of History and Culture has opened a new exhibit, "Revolutionary Allies - Foreign Friends of American Independence," which is open for a limited time from March 7 to November 1.
The exhibit focuses on four individuals who helped the thirteen American colonies gain independence through the support of foreign and unlikely allies.
The individuals featured include Arthur Lee from the United States, Pierre August Caron de Beaumarchais from France, Jean de Neufville from the Dutch Republic and Francisco de Saavedra from Spain.
"Some really amazing artifacts from our museum collection on display, said Sam Florer, the director of public programs at the Virginia Museum of History and Culture. "Original maps from the American Revolution, we have a coded letter that one of America's first spies was writing to fellow diplomats."
