Virginia Republicans rally in Hanover ahead of Election Day, highlighting work since 2022

HANOVER COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) -- After sweeping the 2021 elections, Virginia Republicans are working to earn the Commonwealth's vote this election cycle from the Hanover County courthouse.

Making their pitch with support from Gov. Glenn Youngkin (R), the Republican ticket -- gubernatorial candidate Winsome Earle-Sears, lieutenant governor candidate John Reid and attorney general candidate Jason Miyares -- highlighted issues like this year's tax rebate and curbing drug addictions.

Now, their hope is to continue the work.

"For the last four years, so many times we have seen Virginia rocketing to the front in job creating," Youngkin said. "$140 billion of investment from companies who want to be here. They're going to create another 85,000 jobs and 40,000 construction jobs."

Earle-Sears is convinced Democratic leadership would steer the Commonwealth in a different direction.

"Under Abigail [Spanberger], those jobs would disappear," Earle-Sears said. "Why? Well, because she wants to force everyone to join a union. That's what she voted for."

Earle-Sears voiced her concerns about Spanberger, her Democratic opponent. She spoke about Spanberger's campaign promises, tenure in Congress and stance on transgender rights.

"We don't need men in girls' locker rooms -- We don't need that, we don't need that," Earle-Sears said. "I'm going to say to the media: 'Why do you keep asking Abigail if she supports men in girls' locker rooms when she has voted for it?' She doesn't just support it. She put her name behind it."

If elected as governor, Earle-Sears said she will keep her promise to end the state car tax.

"We're talking about making sure that you keep as much of your own money in your pocket as possible," Earle-Sears said. "You worked hard for it. Why would the government keep trying to take it away from you?"
