Virginia State Police investigating after deputies shoot suspect near Christiansburg
MONTGOMERY COUNTY, Va. (WFXR) -- Virginia State Police are investigating after four Montgomery County deputies shot a suspect who they say threatened them with a chainsaw on November 9. On Saturday, State Police said deputies were called for an attempted arson at 5:17 p.m. on the 3800 block of Stanley Road near Christiansburg. Deputies arrived to find a person allegedly holding a chainsaw and claiming they had a weapon. After the person allegedly cranked the chainsaw, deputies are said to have then contacted mental health resources. However, State Police say the person became aggressive toward the deputies, who then attempted the use of non-lethal means to subdue them. The attempt reportedly didn't work, and the suspect ran away. As deputies chased them, the person dropped their chainsaw while allegedly making "aggressive movements towards the deputies," according to VSP. They say four deputies fired at the suspect who died at the scene. When VSP finishes its investigation, it will turn over all evidence and documentation to the Montgomery County Commonwealth’s Attorney
