Virginia State Police plane honors trooper killed in line of duty in 2018
CUMBERLAND COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) -- A new Virginia State Police plane is honoring a fallen trooper who was killed in the line of duty in Cumberland County in 2018.
On Friday, Oct. 10, the Virginia State Police Aviation Division and former colleagues flew to Mountain Empire Airport in Rural Retreat to showcase the police's new Kodiak plane, which honors the late Lucas Doswell, then 28 years old. He was reportedly killed in the line of duty on Feb. 4, 2018, while helping conduct a drug raid in Cumberland County.
According to state police, members of Doswell's family toured the plane -- which features the tail number N876VA -- and met with Doswell's colleagues.

Doswell was a native of Chilhowie in southwest Virginia and a five-year veteran of the department when he was killed.
Police are working to acquire all three Kodiak planes, with this one being the second of the three.
They will fly primarily out of the police's Lynchburg airbase. This handles the largest number of search and rescue and other law enforcement flights, according to police.
