Virginia Union’s Historic Season Ends in the NCAA Quarterfinals
RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) -- Valdosta State defeated Virginia Union 49-14 on Saturday to end the Panthers historic season. The Blazers outgained the Panthers 560-227 and led in rushing yards 223-139. Virginia Union, with a 10-4 record, struggled against the Blazers' defense. Running back Jada Byers rushed for 109 yards and a touchdown but fumbled twice. Quarterback RJ Rosales passed for 88 yards and one touchdown. The Blazers scored early and built a 28-7 lead by halftime. In the second half, Edwards threw two more touchdowns, including a 62-yard pass to Samuel Curry. VSU added a rushing touchdown from Bud Chaney to extend their lead to 49-7. VUU added a late touchdown for the final score of 49-14. Saturday's quarterfinal game marked the first time in school history that Virginia Union played in the third round playoff game. The Panthers finish their season with a 10-4 record.
