Virginians can provide input on smallmouth bass management plan

RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) -- Attention, anglers! Virginians have the opportunity to provide feedback on the Department of Wildlife Resources' drafted Smallmouth Bass Management Plan through mid-April.
According to the department, smallmouth bass are the state's second most popular sportfish, second only to largemouth bass.
Popular locations for smallmouth fishing opportunities include warm water streams and rivers as well as large reservoirs like Smith Mountain Lake and Lake Moomaw.
With this in mind, the department drafted a Smallmouth Bass Management Plan that reportedly aims to improve recreational opportunities for smallmouth, use research to better understand the species, explore hatchery information and promote the resource.
