VMFA extends hours for Frida Kahlo exhibition due to popularity
RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) -- Interested in the special Frida Kahlo exhibit at Richmond's Virginia Museum of Fine Arts (VMFA) before it's gone? In its final days, the museum has extended its admission hours due to popular demand.
Frida Kahlo, born in 1907, was a Mexican artist who is best known for her self-portraits. She is seen by many as a trailblazer due to the cultural norms she broke during her lifetime. Her works married traditional Mexican culture with the out-of-the-box ideas she had about not just art, but also the world around her. Feminist ideals and societal critiques can be found in many of her paintings.
"Frida: Beyond the Myth," a special exhibition that first arrived at the VMFA in April, showcases more than 60 pieces of art created by Kahlo, including some of her most important paintings. This exhibition will officially leave the VMFA on Sunday, Sept. 28.
Due to popular demand, the VMFA is offering extended admission hours to "Frida: Beyond the Myth" during its last five days, per a press release from the museum.
From Wednesday, Sept. 24 until the exhibition closes on Sunday, you can visit "Frida: Beyond the Myth" from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. -- though the rest of the VMFA's exhibits will operate on its normal schedule, which is from 10 a.m. until 5 p.m. or 9 p.m. depending on the day.
A few other parts of the museum will also operate on extended hours during this time, including:
- The VMFA Shop: 9 a.m. to 9 p.m.
- Best Café: 10 a.m. to 9 p.m.
- Amuse Restaurant: 11:30 a.m. to 9 p.m., with last seating at 8 p.m.
Tickets to view "Frida: Beyond the Myth" are $20 for adults, $16 for those 65 years old or older and $10 for children between 7 and 17 years old, as well as students who present ID. If you are a museum member, a child under 6, a state employee or a K-12 schoolteacher, admission is free.
