RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) -- The family of Genesis Jones, who was killed in the Shockoe Bottom shooting on Saturday, are heartbroken over the loss of their beloved daughter, sister and friend.

On Saturday, Feb. 21, at around 10 a.m., the family of Genesis Jones, who had been killed during a shooting in Shockoe Bottom, visited the scene. They shared grief with neighbors and businesses.

"We lost our baby, so it's a terrible, sad day for us," said Zekiah Jones, Genesis's brother.

Zekiah Jones said his family came to Shockoe Bottom for a birthday celebration on Friday night, but it ended in catastrophe early Saturday morning.

There were at least 50 shots that rang out near the intersection of N. 18th Street and E. Main Street just before 3 a.m. One of these shots killed Genesis Jones.

"The day ended in tragedy," Zekiah Jones said. "My younger brother's birthday was today, so we'll never forget this day."

8News ended the conversation quickly after the family asked for privacy.

The nearby businesses and neighbors have shared their condolences, but the Joneses are hoping to receive answers from the public's help.

"If you saw something, feel free to come forward and say something. How would you feel if this was your family, your sister?" Zekiah Jones said.

The second victim in the shooting was 42-year-old Dominic Antoine Jackson.
