‘We love you Dora’: Family, friends remember the 15-year-old shot, killed in Richmond
RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) -- Loved ones are mourning the loss of 15-year-old Dora Hill, who was shot and killed Wednesday evening on Richmond’s Northside.
“I’m gonna miss you, Dora. I love you so much,” said her best friend, Tyonna Lawson. “I wish she [were] here with us. We shouldn’t be going through this right now.”
Officers with the Richmond Police Department responded to the report of a shooting on the 1100 block of North 1st Street just before 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday, April 2, where they found Hill with a gunshot wound outside an apartment complex. Police said she was taken to a nearby hospital, but died from her injuries shortly after.
“When I got the call, I thought it was a joke. Like I was in a dream,” Lawson recalled. “It just broke my heart. I don’t know.”

Authorities have since arrested a 17-year-old boy from Richmond in connection with Hill’s murder. Police said the suspect knew Hill personally.
“I thought he loved her. I thought he cared about her,” Lawson said. “But, you know, people are evil. Just the world is evil.”
While an arrest has been made, Hill’s family and friends said it does not bring back the young girl who had so much life ahead of her.
“She was just ready to be 16,” Lawson said. “Now she can’t spend her birthday with us. Now we’ve got to spend it alone.”
Hill is one of five children shot in Richmond this week, and her loved ones are calling for change.

“Put the guns down. Stop fighting girls,” Lawson said. “You took my best friend away from me. You took the one person I can call when I need help with anything.”
