Wood stove sparks house fire, second such incident in 24 hours: Chesterfield Fire

CHESTERFIELD COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) — Chesterfield officials are warning residents about the dangers of wood stoves after crews responded to a house fire Saturday afternoon.
Just after 1 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 29, crews with Chesterfield Fire and EMS were called to the 8900 block of Cloverpatch Terrace for a report of a house fire.
When they arrived, firefighters found heavy smoke coming from the home and fire near the roofline, officials said in a social post.

The flames were put out in less than an hour, and no injuries were reported.
Officials said the fire might have started from a wood stove. This is the second such incident involving a wood stove that crews had responded to in the past 24 hours.
As the weather gets colder, officials urged residents to follow these safety precautions when using wood stoves or fireplaces:
- Keep anything that can burn at least three feet away from the fire.
- Put the fire out before going to bed or leaving the house.
- Place ashes from your stove or fireplace in a metal container with a lid and store it outside, at least 10 feet away from your home.
