Youngkin announces website to help fired federal workers, says there are plenty of jobs in Virginia

RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) - With the Trump administration slashing hundreds of thousands of federal jobs, Governor Glenn Youngkin has announced a new website to help those who have been let go.

“We have a federal government that is inefficient and we have an administration that is taking on that challenge of rooting out waste, fraud, and abuse,” Youngkin said on Monday defending the firings.

Youngkin announced what he calls an “Online Support Bundle” to help the more than 144,000 federal workers in Virginia, some of whom have already lost their jobs. The website includes links to various state resources including how to apply for unemployment insurance, search for a new job, and more.

Youngkin also announced virginiahasjobs.com, which provides links to each region’s largest employers, plus jobs posted to other sites.

“We have a lot of federal workers in the commonwealth. I want to make sure that they know we care about them and we value them, and we want them to find that next chapter should they experience job dislocation here in Virginia,” Youngkin said.

However, Democrats like House of Delegates Speaker Don Scott (D-Portsmouth), say Youngkin isn’t doing enough to help.

“We need somebody now to stand up to Elon President Musk, I mean President Trump and President Musk, I mean Vice President Musk or whoever he is because he is unelected, but we need someone that will stand up right now in this hour and say that’s wrong, that’s enough,” Scott told 8News.

Scott added that people don’t want unemployment, they want to keep the jobs that pay their bills.

"Unemployment insurance maximum in Virginia is $387 a week. These people in some instances were making six figures plus,” said Scott.

Both of Virginia’s Democratic U.S. Senators, Tim Kaine and Mark Warner, also have resources on their websites to help federal workers being let go.
