20 kg of cocaine worth just under $2 million recovered in Greensville County

GREENSVILLE COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) -- Twenty kilograms of cocaine with a street value of just under $2 million were recovered by police during a traffic stop in Greensville County.

At 8:49 a.m. on Wednesday, April 23, Virginia State Police pulled over a vehicle on Interstate 95 in Greensville County for following too closely.

Police said a narcotics canine then gave a positive alert, after which the vehicle was searched. Twenty kilograms of cocaine were found with an estimated street value of just under $2,000,000.

Thirty-six-year-old Joel Garcia-Damian of Doral, Fla. and 23-year-old Luis Abdiel Padilla-Martell of Miami, Fla. were both arrested and charged with "possession with intent to distribute and transport of narcotics into Virginia with the intent to distribute," according to officials.

Both had hearings in the morning on Thursday, April 24, in Greensville County General District Court.
