26-year-old Chesterfield man dies after shooting in Prince George

PRINCE GEORGE COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) -- A 26-year-old Chesterfield County man died after police said he was shot in Prince George County early Thursday morning.

At 12:19 a.m. on Thursday, Feb. 27, officers with the Prince George County Police Department responded to the 5000 block of Owens Way for the report of a shooting.

When officers arrived, they found a man with a gunshot wound. He was reportedly taken to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead. Police said he was identified as 26-year-old D'Mond Taylor of Chesterfield County.

Just before 6 a.m. on Thursday, officials identified, found and arrested a suspect, identified as 24-year-old Charles Young IV of Petersburg.

Young was charged with second-degree murder and use of a firearm in the commission of a felony, according to police. He is being held at Chesterfield County Jail.

"There is no related threat to the Prince George County community currently," the department said.
