27-year-old man dies after being shot on Richmond’s Deforrest Street

RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) -- A 27-year-old man died after police said he was found lying on the ground with gunshot wounds near Richmond's Whitcomb Court neighborhood Monday morning.

At 6:43 a.m. on Monday, Feb. 16, officers with the Richmond Police Department were called to the 2100 block of Deforrest Street for the report of a shooting.

When officers arrived, they found 27-year-old Detoine Melton, of Richmond, lying on the ground and unresponsive. Police said he had apparent gunshot wounds and was pronounced dead at the scene.

Officials said the Medical Examiner will determine Melton's cause and manner of death.
