2nd annual musical celebration to be held in honor of local radio host Kat Simons

RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) -- 8News got a visit from a special guest on Monday to talk about the 2nd annual musical celebration happening this weekend to honor local radio host Kat Simons.

8News anchor Delaney Hall was joined by Debra Willis, president of the nonprofit Friends of Kat Simons Foundation, as she spoke about Simons' impact and how it influenced the celebration.

"Her heart was just as huge as the whole wild world and the way that she was able to give of herself to be able to spotlight the nonprofits in the area, and we're gonna have so many of them represented on Saturday," Willis said.

This year's musical celebration will take place on Saturday, Sept. 13 at Westchester Commons on the Village Green from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.

The event is free to the public, pet-friendly and will feature activities for people of all ages.

There will be food trucks, nonprofit organizations and several live performances from artists like Not Just 90s Unplugged featuring Jenna Be, Market Street Music and 64 Crayons.

Event organizers are still looking for volunteers to help out with the celebration -- if you or someone you know is interesting in coming out, visit the Friends of Kat Simons Foundation website to learn more.
