32-year-old man dies in Sussex County crash
SUSSEX COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) -- A 32-year-old man died after police said the pickup truck he was driving hit a tree in Sussex County. At 12:01 a.m. on Monday, Jan. 6, Virginia State Police responded to a single-vehicle crash that killed one person in the 7300 block of Birch Island Road, south of Route 604 in the town of Wakefield in Sussex County. Police said preliminary investigation has revealed that the driver of a 2003 Ford F-150 pickup truck was heading north on Birch Island Road when he lost control and ran off the road, hitting a tree. The driver, 32 year old Timothy Lee Tanner, of the town of Dendron in Surry County, was not wearing a seatbelt and died upon impact.
