40-year-old man killed, several injured in crash involving 18-wheeler in Emporia
EMPORIA, Va. (WRIC) -- The Emporia Police Department is investigating a deadly crash involving an 18-wheeler that killed a 40-year-old man and injured several others. According to the Emporia Police Department, the driver of an 18-wheeler, identified as 27-year-old Barrett Moss-Johnson, of Maryland, was involved in a crash with a Lexus sedan as he attempted to turn onto Route 58 from Davis Street. The driver of the Lexus, 18-year-old Brenden St. John, along with passengers Bradley St. John, 18, and a juvenile were immediately transported to the hospital for medical attention. Officials said Brenden was then rushed to VCU Medical Center in critical condition. According to police, another passenger who was sitting in the back of the Lexus, identified as 40-year-old Bruce St. John, was pronounced dead at the scene. Police said the St. John family are residents of the Virginia Beach area. When responding to the incident, the Greensville Volunteer Fire Department assisted in extricating Brenden who was trapped in the vehicle after the crash, according to authorities. Virginia State Police is assisting in the investigation to determine the cause of the crash. According to police, Moss-Johnson has been charged with reckless driving, with more charges pending.
