61-year-old man identified as victim head-on crash in Hanover County
HANOVER COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) -- The Hanover County Sheriff's Office has identified the victim in the two-vehicle crash on Washington Highway in the county's Doswell area. At approximately 7:39 a.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 17, Hanover County deputies responded to a two-vehicle crash at the 16300 block of Washington Highway in the Doswell area of the county. According to the sheriff's office investigation, it was determined that a 2010 Honda Civic was headed South on Washington Highway when the driver crossed the line in the center -- hitting a 2018 Ford F450 head-on that was traveling in the opposite direction. Sixty-one-year-old Michael Purtell of the Partlow area of Spotsylvania County, the driver of the Honda, was pronounced dead on the scene of the crash by Hanover Fire and EMS. Purtell was taken to Office of the Chief Medical Examiner to be examined further. The driver and passenger of the Ford were taken to VCU Medical Center to be treated for minor injuries. The circumstances that led to the crash are still being investigated by Hanover County Sheriff's Office.
