8-year-old boy alerts family to garage fire in Chesterfield
CHESTERFIELD COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) -- An 8-year-old Chesterfield County boy alerted his family to a fire in their garage on Thursday afternoon, an act that officials say may have helped keep everyone safe.
According to Chesterfield Fire and EMS, crews responded to the report of a house fire in the 8200 block of Longlands Court at 3:37 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 11.
When the first firefighters arrived, they found smoke coming from the garage and fire inside. They were able to put the fire out before it spread to the interior of the house.

Firefighters learned while on the scene that an 8-year-old boy, who lived in the house, was the first one to see the fire and alerted his family.
Officials said that it's likely the boy's actions not only helped keep the fire from spreading, but also helped ensure everyone got out unharmed.
There were no injuries and no displacements as a result of the fire, per authorities.
