American Airlines experiences ‘technical issue’ with all flights on Christmas Eve

AUSTIN (KXAN) -- American Airlines is briefly experienced delays on the morning of Christmas Eve due to what the airline called a "technical issue." The Fort Worth-based international airline posted on X at 5:37 a.m. that it was "currently experiencing a technical issue with all American Airlines flights." The post was in response to a passenger reporting their plane, headed from St. Louis to Miami, was delayed. A statement from American Airlines said, "A vendor technology issue briefly affected flights this morning. That issue has been resolved and flights have resumed. We sincerely apologize to our customers for the inconvenience this morning. It’s all hands on deck as our team is working diligently to get customers where they need to go as quickly as possible." The Federal Aviation Administration issued a ground stop for all American Airlines flights just before 6 a.m. CT Tuesday morning but it was canceled an hour later. The website DownDetector, which tracks issues and outages, showed a spike in outage reports related to American Airlines Tuesday morning starting around 5 a.m. CT An update shortly after 6 a.m. CT showed just over 2,000 reports about the airline.
