Ashland Theatre hosting Alzheimer’s awareness film night, discussion

HANOVER COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) -- The Ashland Theatre is partnering with the Alzheimer's Association to host an evening dedicated to raising awareness about Alzheimer's disease, with an award-winning film and a panel discussion.

The event, set for Thursday, Aug. 21, will open with a screening of "The Father" (2020), starring Anthony Hopkins and Olivia Colman. Hopkins earned the Academy Award for Best Actor for his portrayal of a man living with dementia.

After the screening, a representative from the Alzheimer's Association will moderate a panel discussion focused on recognizing the signs of Alzheimer's and understanding the challenges of supporting those diagnosed. Attendees will get the chance to ask questions and share resources. A full list of panelists will be announced soon.
