Authorities, traffic officials give advice to stay safe on flooded roads in Virginia
RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) -- Some Virginia authorities, including in Prince Edward and Halifax counties, were out on Wednesday saving vehicles from flood waters.
Following severe storms on Tuesday, July 9, more rain is possible in the Greater Richmond area on Wednesday, and could potentially cause isolated incidents of flooding. That's why authorities and traffic officials are reminding drivers to obey road signs and offering advice for people to stay safe.
Ultimately, organizations, including AAA, are reminding drivers to avoid floods entirely to keep themselves and their families safe.
The National Weather Service coined the term "Turn Around, Don't Drown," which AAA encourages drivers to do when encountering flooded roads.
Drivers may want to find higher ground to stay safe as well. They are advised not to drive in dips, low spots and underpasses. If you have to park your car, never park near streams, rivers and drainage areas.
