Bring your dog to Louisa County Sheriff’s Office K9 5K this spring
LOUISA COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) — Up for a 5K this spring alongside four-legged runners? Join the Louisa County Sheriff's Office and their K-9 unit on the course next month for a good cause.
The sheriff's office announced the return of the annual K9 5K Run/Walk at the Spring Creek Sports Center on April 25, at 8:30 a.m. Participants can tackle the course at their own pace.
The family-friendly event also features the Kids' Half-Mile Fun Run for children. Guests will have the chance to see a live K-9 demonstration and participate in activities for the whole family.
Runners can invite their well-behaved dogs to the 5K on a leash. Water stations will be available along the course. All canine participants must be up to date on rabies vaccines.
On race day, the schedule is as follows:
- 7 a.m.: Packet pickup at Spring Creek Sports Center
- 8:30 a.m.: 5K race starts
- 9:30 a.m.: Kids' Half-Mile Fun Run begins
- 10 a.m.: Awards ceremony
- 10:15 a.m.: K-9 demonstration
All proceeds from the event support the Louisa County Sheriff's Office K9 Unit, as the program is funded entirely through donations and fundraising events, per a release. Local businesses can also support this event by donating items or services.
