Chesterfield County Registrar’s Office seeks more poll workers
CHESTERFIELD COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) -- Ahead of National Poll Worker Recruitment Day and the upcoming election, the Chesterfield County Registrar's Office is looking for more officers of election.
National Poll Worker Recruitment Day, which is recognized on Aug. 12, was established in 2020 by the U.S. Election Assistance Commission to enlist potential poll workers to serve in local, state and federal elections.
As Chesterfield County's population of registered voters grows from the current figure of 280,000, as of the time of reporting, the county said its Registrar's Office is looking to add to its current list of officers of election.
A county spokesperson said its officers of election play an "integral role" during early voting and on election day. All officers of election must complete mandatory training and are paid for their service.
The spokesperson said officers of election in the state must be registered Virginia voters, though they do not have to live in the locality in which they serve.
Officers of election may be asked to do the following, according to the county:
- Greet voters
- Provide information on the voting process and how to mark a ballot
- Assist voters who choose to vote curbside
- Check in voters and issue a ballot
- Monitor voting equipment
- Assist voters with a disability
To sign up to become an officer of election, and for more information, visit the county's Registrar's Office webpage or call 804-748-1471.
