Chesterfield Police crack down on irresponsible driving near Courthouse Road, Lucks Lane

CHESTERFIELD COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) -- Chesterfield Police are cracking down on drivers in the accident-prone area of Courthouse Road and Lucks Lane.

They spotted dozens of drivers being reckless this past Friday.

101 tickets were handed out during the latest traffic blitz, but police say it's about much more than writing summonses.

After officers asked for opinions online, there was a plea to keep an eye on improper driving in and around the Courthouse and Lucks area.

"It was the clear winner out of ten, and we had over 1700 votes in that poll which is the highest that we've seen," said Chesterfield Police Sgt. Kyle Easton.

The area has proved deadly in the past. In April 2024, 31-year-old Chesterfield resident Katherine Anderson was jogging on Lucks when a veering driver hit her, and she died at the hospital.

With these blitzes, Chesterfield Police continue to encourage safe driving and saving lives.

"For us, it's really about that impact and trying to prevent tragedy from striking again," Sgt. Easton said.

Helping to prevent that and hopefully stopping issues on the road, 85 cars were stopped, 16 warnings were written and one D.U.I. arrest was made, in addition to more than 100 tickets written.

Police said however, the focus is driver safety.

"It's not about tickets. It's not a gotcha moment. That is not our concern here. We just want everybody to get where they're going safely," Sgt. Easton said.

Chesterfield Police anticipates doing one more blitz before the year's over, and they'll be asking for drivers' suggestions again online soon.
