Chesterfield residents recall murder of mother, 3 children in 2022 as suspect sentenced

CHESTERFIELD COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) — Chesterfield County residents are recalling the murders of a mother and her three children in Nov. 2022 as the convicted suspect receives 13 life sentences plus 18 years in prison. According to the Chesterfield County Police Department, around 5 a.m. on Friday, Nov. 18, 2022, 39-year-old JoAnna Cottle made a 911 phone call reporting an intruder at her home in the 4700 block of Laurel Oak Road. Police heard gunshots while on the line with her. When officers arrived at the scene, they found Cottle -- along with her 13-year-old Kaelyn and 4-year-old twins Jayson and Kinsey -- shot and killed in the home. "I was kind of like scared a little bit, because I didn't know if it was my kids," said Corban Norfleet of Chesterfield County. Norfleet said remembers hearing of the horrific tragedy on the news. He added that he believes Adams deserved a greater punishment than he received. "It was sad for the babies, the mom -- they didn't deserve that at all," Norfleet said. "For real, he needed the death penalty. If Virginia did the death penalty, he really needed it."
