Chesterfield reveals Courthouse Road project options, resident reacts

CHESTERFIELD COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) -- Chesterfield County revealed alignment alternatives last week for an extension project that is proposed to take place on Courthouse Road, and one resident is worried about its potential impact on the community. The project aims to use local funds to extend Courthouse Road from its current stopping point at L.C. Bird High School and connect it to Salem Church Road. In the picture below, the alignment alternatives are outlined in green, red and light blue. (Courtesy of Chesterfield County) 8News spoke with one Chesterfield resident, Wayne Lucas, who is against the project and says it will affect everyone in the area -- no matter which alignment option is chosen "It's way too much traffic, it's way too much growth," Lucas said. "The infrastructure, in my opinion, cannot handle the increased traffic." Chessa Walker, director of the Chesterfield Department of Transportation, told 8News that the purpose of the project is to "provide better access to all the different uses that are on Courthouse Road." The alignment options were described by Walker as follows: Alignment 1 (light blue): This option would not impact the private road (Osterbind Lane) above it and would build a new road parallel to it and extend in the same way. Alignment 2 (red): This option would use the private road (Osterbind Lane), convert it to a public use road and extend from the county fairground to Salem Church Road. Alignment 3 (green): This option takes the alignment to the south, crosses over the creek and ties in behind the schools that are along Salem Church Road.
