Colonial Downs says tickets going fast for 2026 Virginia Derby

NEW KENT COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) -- Colonial Downs has announced that tickets are going fast for the 2026 Virginia Derby, which will once again be an official qualifier for the Kentucky Derby.

In the morning on Nov. 20, Colonial Downs said tickets for the 2026 Virginia Derby on March 14, 2026, were going fast.

Fans can buy their tickets online to watch Virginia's only Kentucky Derby qualifying race.

In only ten days, Colonial Downs said its Jockey Club, Grandstand Boxes and Trackside Tent have already sold out, and very limited tickets remain in the Apron Boxes, Grandstand Seats and High Limit tavles.

Colonial Downs said it is also offering a limited number of general admission tickets for $5 each, with free admission for children ages five and under.

Last year, Virginia Derby winner American Promise and runner-up Render Judgment both went on to run in the 151st Kentucky Derby at Churchill Downs.

For the 2026 race season, Colonial Downs will again host a special March meet with races on Thursday, March 12, Friday, March 13, and culminating with the Virginia Derby and Virginia Oaks on Saturday, March 14, pending Virginia Racing Commission approval.
