Dog ‘walking with a wobble’ rescued by Richmond animal control officer, then tests positive for cocaine

RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) -- A dog who was reportedly "walking with a wobble" with no identified owner was rescued by an animal control officer in Richmond, after which Richmond Animal Care and Control (RACC) staff found that the dog tested positive for cocaine.

On Sunday, March 15, RACC shared on social media that a call for service had previously come in regarding a dog who was reportedly "walking with a wobble."

When an animal control officer with the Richmond Police Department arrived at the scene, RACC said they found a dog vomiting, and no one present knew who the dog's owner was.

According to RACC, the dog arrived at the shelter with a wagging tail, but the report of a "wobbly" walk prompted staff to take a drug test.

The shelter said staff often see dogs who ingest marijuana act "wobbly," but following testing, RACC said the dog was positive for cocaine.

The dog reportedly received a bath to remove any possible residue that could be remaining and was closely monitored.

RACC staff named the dog "I'm Happy to be Here!"
