Father convicted of second-degree murder after son dies with cocaine in system

SPOTSYLVANIA COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) -- A father was convicted of several charges on Wednesday, including second-degree murder, after his 2-year-old son died with a "significant amount" of cocaine in his system back in December 2023.

According to online court records, 24-year-old Cinceir Croxton was convicted of second-degree murder, child abuse and possession with intent to sell on Wednesday, Oct. 1.

Croxton was first arrested on Dec. 6, 2023, following the death of his son, Cinceir Croxton, Jr., at the Children's Hospital of Richmond at VCU after being flown there from a Spotsylvania motel.

While he was also originally charged with child endangerment and possession of drugs with a firearm, those charges were dropped in a prior hearing.

A sentencing hearing will be held for Croxton at Spotsylvania Circuit Court on Jan. 26, 2026, at 9 a.m.

The child's mother, 22-year-old Kahleighya Coleman, was also originally facing the same charges as Croxton, but accepted a plea agreement on March 18, 2025.

The child endangerment and possession of a firearm charges were dropped and Coleman was convicted of the other charges, including second-degree murder, child abuse and possession with intent to sell.

Her sentencing has been continued from a hearing on June 20, 2025, to a new date of Oct. 14, 2025, at 9 a.m. at Spotsylvania Circuit Court.
