Felon found with drugs, sawed-off shotgun after police pursuit in Albemarle

ALBEMARLE COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) -- A 33-year-old violent felon was hit with several charges after police say he lied to an Albemarle County officer, fled a traffic stop and was ultimately found to have both illegal drugs and a sawed-off shotgun.

At about 11:45 a.m. on Sunday, July 20, an officer with the Albemarle County Police Department stopped a vehicle in the 800 block of Pantops Corner Way.

Police said that the driver, later identified as 33-year-old Trevious T. Sandridge of Charlottesville, gave the officer who stopped him a false name and Social Security number. The officer also reportedly saw "what appeared to be a handgun" in Sandridge's pocket.

After the officer asked him to put his hands on the steering wheel, police said Sandridge drove away from the traffic stop.

Suspected cocaine, methamphetamine and fentanyl were reportedly found in his vehicle, as well as a sawed-off shotgun, police said. Officers also learned that Sandridge was a previously convicted violent felon who had two outstanding warrants at the time of his arrest.

Sandridge was hit with a total of eight charges in connection with this incident, including:
