Flood damage shuts down Prince George roadway ‘until further notice’
PRINCE GEORGE COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) -- Damage from mid-July flooding has shut down a Prince George County roadway "until further notice," according to officials.
Central Virginia has seen numerous severe storms in recent weeks, with several of them causing flash floods in many localities.
Among those impacted is Prince George County, which saw roadways across the county turned into rivers between Monday, July 14 and Tuesday, July 15.
Many of the other impacted roadways have reopened, but some closures remain. The Prince George County Police Department reported that, as of July 17, closures are still in place at Pumphouse Road at Loving Union Road, as well as at the intersection of Templeton and Lansing roads.

On Tuesday, July 22, the county announced an additional closure. A portion of Griffon Road between College and Birdsong roads will be closed "until further notice" as the Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) both assesses and repairs damage caused by July 15 flooding.
Drivers should follow these listed detours:
- Northbound drivers: Move south on College Road, then turn left onto Gary's Church Road. Turn left onto S. Crater Road, then turn left onto Birdsong Road. Finally, turn left onto Griffin Road.
- Southbound drivers: Move east on Birdsong Road, then turn right onto S. Crater Road. Turn right onto Gary's Church Road, then turn right onto College Road. Finally, turn right onto Griffin Road.
