Former VP of Kings Dominion stepping down as CEO for Six Flags

HANOVER COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) -- The CEO of Six Flags, who formerly served as vice president for Kings Dominion, is stepping down from his position at the end of 2025.

Richard Zimmerman, the current CEO of Six Flags, will continue to serve in his role until a successor is appointed, according to a release from the entertainment corporation on Wednesday, Aug. 6.

The Six Flags Board of Directors has begun the search for the next CEO, with assistance from "a leading global executive search firm," the release said. The company also said that internal and external candidates will be up for consideration.

“The Company has significantly evolved since I first joined what was then Paramount Parks, Inc. in 1987, and it has been an honor to have led such talented teams through critical and transformative periods over the years – not only for our company, but for the entire amusement park industry,” Zimmerman said.

Zimmerman previously served as the vice president and general manager of Kings Dominion in 1998, according to his biography on the company's website.

This CEO update comes after Six Flags and Cedar Fair, owner of Kings Dominion, completed a merger of the two amusement park companies in July of last year, prompting the combined company to be operated under the name "Six Flags Entertainment Corporation."
