Hanover County to hold free hazardous waste recycling event

HANOVER COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) -- Hanover County will be hosting a free hazardous waste recycling and shredding event this Saturday for residents to safely get rid of sensitive household materials.

According to a county press release, the event will take place on Saturday, April 5 at the Mechanicsville Convenience Center, located at 7427 Verdi Lane, from 8 a.m. to noon.

In terms of disposing liquids, aerosols and solids, while there is no cost, each resident is limited to five gallons, depending on the size of their containers.

Other materials that will be accepted include, as listed by the county:

  • Oil-based paints
  • Household cleaners
  • Flammables
  • Pesticides and herbicides
  • Corrosive liquids
  • Solids, including pool/spa chemicals
  • Acids
  • Drain cleaner
  • Art and hobby supplies

Residents should not bring:

  • Batteries
  • Tube fluorescent light bulbs
  • Explosives
  • Radioactive materials

For the shredding portion, people can bring up to four boxes (10" by 12" by 18"), paper bags or documents for a secure shredding opportunity.

Only Hanover residents may attend the event. All attendees must show their IDs.
