‘I’m just tired’: Henrico store burglarized for third time in one year

HENRICO COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) -- After three break-ins in less than a year, the owner of a Henrico County thrift store said he’s exhausted, frustrated and thinking about moving his business.
“I’m just tired, you know,” said Brett McCray, owner of Needful Things & More, located at 2204 Pemberton Rd. in Henrico.
The Henrico Police Division said its officers were called to the store just after 1 a.m. on Tuesday, July 15. They found a broken front window and multiple items stolen.
McCray said security footage shows the burglar throwing a brick through the front window and entering through that opening.
“Somebody smashed through a brick through my window,” McCray said. “I found wood from the last break-in in the back, and I boarded it up myself.”
According to police, the previous two incidents also occurred around 1 a.m. -- in August 2024 and January 2025. Back then, McCray said the intruder entered through the back of the building.
Though each break-in has been caught on one of the store's 20 security cameras, no suspects have been identified.
“Got them on camera, but they're in gloves, masks," McCray said. "They were in here [for] maybe 45 seconds."

In total, McCray said he has lost at least $50,000 from the three incidents. Now, he’s trying to pick up the pieces -- and he's wondering whether it’s time to relocate.
“Three minutes of your life can wreck it, you know,” McCray said. “I’m heightened to look for things, because I don't want it to happen again. And I don't want to come through the front door.”
The store will remain closed until next Wednesday, July 23, but McCray will continue to offer jewelry repairs. To reach him for that, you can call 804-742-6137.
Police are asking anyone who might know something about this to contact authorities.
