LIST: Celebrate active aging with free workshops, events in Henrico
HENRICO COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) -- Henrico County will celebrate healthy living among older adults with several free workshops and events during "Active Aging Week."
During Active Aging Week, which runs from Oct. 6 to Oct. 12, Henrico will offer a variety of activities meant to "promote community connection, volunteerism and healthy living among adults ages 50 and older," according to a Sept. 24 press release.
These events are designed for older adults and are free to attend. Registration ahead of time is only required for one of the events.

Home Safety and Fall Prevention workshop, Monday, Oct. 6
- When: 2 p.m. on Monday, Oct. 6
- Where: Glen Allen Branch Library, 10501 Staples Mill Rd.
Job Readiness for Older Adults workshop, Monday, Oct. 6
- When: 2 p.m. on Monday, Oct. 6
- Where: Tuckahoe Area Library, 1901 Starling Dr.
Generations Today, Tuesday, Oct. 7
- When: 10 a.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 7
- Where: Deep Run Recreation Center, 9900 Ridgefield Pkwy
- Details: An intergenerational program designed to get older adults and their family members on their feet with fitness and movement-based games.
"Thelma" Screening, Wednesday, Oct. 8
- When: 10 a.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 8
- Where: Henrico Theatre, 305 E. Nine Mile Rd.
- Details: "Thelma" is a comedy film released in 2024 that tells the story of a 93-year-old woman who, after being scammed, works to get her money back.
Health and Fitness Expo, Thursday, Oct. 9
- When: 10 a.m. on Thursday, Oct. 9
- Where: Eastern Henrico Recreation Center, 1440 N. Laburnum Ave.
- Details: Attendees will be able to learn more about local vendors and wellness resources while also enjoying activities like yoga, line dancing, Zumba and pickleball.
Annual Active Aging Walk & Fitness Forum, Friday, Oct. 10
- When: 10 a.m. to noon on Friday, Oct. 10
- Where: Henrico Sports & Events Center, 1 All Star Blvd.
- Details: Attendees can participate in a community walk and fitness classes while also learning more about active-living resources for older Henrico residents. There will be light refreshments.
“The Annual Active Aging Walk & Fitness Forum is an energetic celebration of active aging and a chance for older adults to discover new ways to stay engaged, connected and healthy in our community," said Henrico's advocate for the aging, Ashlee Giles, in the release.

Active Aging Week is offered by the Outreach & Engagement Agency in partnership with the Division of Recreation & Parks, the Henrico County Public Library and The Span Center.
