Officials continue search for answers three years after Hanover woman’s remains found in Southampton

HANOVER COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) -- Three years after a Hanover County woman's remains were found in Southampton County, officials continue to search for who may be responsible for her death.

On June 21, 2022, human remains were found in the 24000 block of Adams Grove Road in Southampton County, according to the Southampton County Sheriff's Office.

After officials investigated, the remains were identified as those of Karen Ryan, who had previously been reported missing from Hanover County.

Her death is believed to have been a homicide, according to officials, and the rural area where her remains were found is roughly 70 miles from her home in Hanover.

Just over three years later, officials continue to seek answers regarding her death.

The Southampton County Sheriff's Office has been working closely with the Hanover County Sheriff's Office and Virginia State Police to investigate the homicide.
