PHOTOS: Moo-ove over! New calf arrives at Maymont Farm in Richmond
RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) -- Richmond's Maymont Farm has welcomed a new calf into its pastures.
During the month of April, little Maddie -- a 4-month-old copper-colored Irish Dexter heifer -- joined the many other types of livestock Maymont houses on its property.
According to a press release, she was born at Frederick County's Mad Kettle Farm in Dec. 2024.

In her short time at Maymont, Maddie has already begun to bond with another Irish Dexter: Hampton, a 6-year-old steer.
“Maddie seems to have adjusted quickly to her forever home at Maymont and our young male steer named Hampton looks happy to have a new companion in the pasture,” said Parke Richeson, president and CEO of Maymont Foundation, in the release. “We are always excited to have young animals at the Farm so the community can experience the different stages in an animal’s life cycle.”

The Irish Dexter breed is of particular importance to Maymont. Per the release, the breed was chosen to honor James Dooley, Maymont's original owner, and his Irish heritage.
