Prince George’s first-ever female county attorney resigns

PRINCE GEORGE COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) -- The first woman to ever serve as Prince George County's county attorney resigned on Tuesday after just under two years in the role.

On Tuesday, July 8, the Prince George County Board of Supervisors accepted the resignation of County Attorney Andrea Erard, according to a county press release.

"The Board thanks Ms. Erard for her service to the County," the county said.

Erard was appointed to the role on July 11, 2023, after serving as interim county attorney for a time and as assistant county attorney for seven years prior to that. She brought more than thirty years of experience in local government law to the county attorney's office.

Her appointment was also historic, as she became the first-ever woman to be Prince George County's county attorney.

County officials did not provide any details as to why Erard resigned.

"The Board has appointed Sands Anderson PC to serve as the Interim County Attorney," the county said.

Sands Anderson PC is a law firm based in Richmond. It's unclear if county officials meant that a representative for the firm would serve as its interim county attorney, or if the county would just seek insight from the firm as a whole on relevant matters. 8News reached out for clarification but has not heard back as of the time of reporting.

The process to hire a new county attorney for Prince George "will begin immediately," per the release.
