Richmond Ballet opens 2025-26 season with two productions at VMFA

RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) -- Richmond Ballet is opening its 2025-26 season with two productions at the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts (VMFA) starting on Thursday, Sept. 11.

"Moving Art One: Passion and Power" includes the Virginia premiere of Wild Sweet Love, choreographed by Trey McIntyre. The production is set to pop and rocks songs. The Ballet describes it as a, "playful take on the search for love."

The world premiere of "Piensa en Mí" will follow. The production is choreographed by Richmond Ballet artistic director, Ma Cong, and coincides with the Frida Kahlo exhibit now on display at the VMFA: "Frida: Beyond the Myth."

Company dancer Mikell Graf sat down with 8News anchor Delaney Hall on a special episode of Great8 Events to talk about the production.

"The choreography is so versatile, and it really shows all the different sides of her and her life and her paintings and photographs," Graf said. "It really takes so many different parts of her life and shows it in a way the audience can understand."
