Richmond claims new dashboard will improve transparency on procurement functions

RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) -- The City of Richmond has announced the launch of a new dashboard that aims to improve the transparency of its procurement functions.
According to a press release from the city, the dashboard aims to establish clear and accessible insights into the city's supervision of public funds.
"This is about building accountability and trust," said Richmond Mayor Danny Avula. "When Richmonders can see how we are using their hard-earned dollars to reinvest into their communities, it strengthens confidence in our government and helps us all to feel more connected to the work of serving our community."
The new dashboard consolidates links to preexisting city-managed data sources and provides "up-to-date insights into City contracts, bids (successful or otherwise), requests for proposals, suppliers, and more," according to the release.

The announcement comes before discussion by the Governmental Operations Standing Committee on an ordinance introduced by Councilmember Kenya Gibson that would amend the section of the City Code concerning general requirements of the open data portal.
"The residents of Richmond deserve to know exactly how their money is being spent by the City," Gibson said. "This level of transparency is an absolute must, and I’m looking forward to collaborating with the Administration on this ordinance."
