Schedule released for Battle of the Crater anniversary event
PETERSBURG, Va. (WRIC) -- The program schedule has been released for Petersburg National Battlefield's upcoming Battle of the Crater anniversary event.
People can come to Petersburg National Battlefield, located at 1539 Hickory Hill Road, on Saturday, July 26, for a series of free programs, which aim to commemorate the Battle of the Crater -- a 10-hour battle that took place on July 30, 1864.
As a result of recent flood damage to the park, the living history programs will be located near the Eastern Front Visitor Center at 5001 Siege Road. Then, a free shuttle will be available to take people from the visitor center to the Crater Battlefield for guided ranger tours.
Due to limited space, spots are first-come, first-served, for those planning to attend the ranger program.
The organizers of the event also said that the programs are weather permitting, and encourage people to dress for the forecast.
