Severe thunderstorm watch, warning issued for parts of Central Virginia

RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) -- A severe thunderstorm watch has been issued for some Central Virginia localities west of Interstate 95 on Wednesday, while other areas are under a severe thunderstorm warning.

A severe thunderstorm warning will be in effect until 4:45 p.m. on Wednesday, July 9, in the following localities:

  • Albemarle County

A severe thunderstorm warning will be in effect until 5 p.m. on Wednesday in the following localities:

  • Fluvanna County
  • Goochland County
  • Greene County
  • Louisa County
  • Madison County

A severe thunderstorm warning will be in effect until 5:15 p.m. on Wednesday in the following localities:

  • Buckingham County

A severe thunderstorm warning means a severe storm or storms have formed in or near the impacted areas.

A severe thunderstorm watch will be in effect until 10 p.m. on Wednesday in the following localities:

  • Albemarle County
  • Buckingham County
  • Caroline County
  • City of Charlottesville
  • Cumberland County
  • Goochland County
  • Hanover County
  • Louisa County
  • Orange County
  • Powhatan County
  • Prince Edward County

A severe thunderstorm watch means a severe storm or storms may form, given current and forecasted weather conditions.

People can expect damage to trees and power lines due to heavy winds. If you are in an impacted area, move to an interior room on the lowest floor of a building for protection.
