PETERSBURG, Va. (WRIC) -- Two adults were displaced following a cooking-related fire at a Petersburg home on Thursday morning.

Just after 11:45 a.m. on Thursday, Jan. 8, crews with Petersburg Fire and EMS were called to a reported residential fire on Grigg Street.

When the first firefighters arrived, they found heavy smoke showing from a two-story Cape Code-style home.

Fire officials said the fire originated in the kitchen and extended into two additional rooms of the home.

The cause of the fire is determined to be cooking-related, officials confirmed.

Fire and EMS crews are still on scene conducting overhaul operations and ensuring the structure is safe.
