Two suspects sought after shots-fired incident near Petersburg High School leads to lockdown
PETERSBURG, Va. (WRIC) -- The Petersburg Bureau of Police is seeking to identify two suspects in connection with a shots-fired incident near Petersburg High School on Tuesday afternoon, which prompted the school to go into lockdown.
Just after 3 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 28, the Petersburg Bureau of Police said it was “conducting an investigation” in the area of Johnson Road and Homestead Drive.
In response to the situation, Petersburg City Public Schools announced that both Vernon John Middle School and Petersburg High School were placed on lockdown due to a “safety issue and police investigation near Petersburg High.”
The lockdowns were lifted within about 15 minutes of one another, and students were dismissed.
Police have identified 21-year-old Damarco Evans and 46-year-old Chatese Evans as suspects connected to this incident, per an Oct. 31 social post.

Later that Tuesday evening, Petersburg Schools said that gunshots were heard near Petersburg High’s parking lot after dismissal. All student buses had already been loaded and had left the campus by this time.
