VCU announces reinstatement of previously terminated students’ visas

RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) -- Nearly a month after hundreds of students nationwide had their visas revoked, the Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU) has announced in an email that at least three visas have been reinstated.

On Tuesday, April 29, Michael Porter, the Associate Vice President for Public Relations at VCU, shared in a statement to 8News that two VCU students and one recent graduate's visa termination status has been reversed.

Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) announced the restoration of more than 1,500 foreign students’ visa registrations after multiple recent lawsuits on April 25.

The revocations come as part of a broader immigration crackdown under President Donald Trump’s administration -- what many immigration advocates called a "visa purge" -- which has increasingly targeted international students and visa holders.

The Hill reported that April's wave of visa cancellations began with the targeting of pro-Palestinian student protestors but has since expanded beyond that. In many cases, students said their visas were revoked over minor infractions -- like traffic violations -- or without any clear explanation.
