Virginia State Police trooper’s patrol vehicle hit by alleged drunk driver in Sussex County
SUSSEX COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) -- A Virginia State Police trooper's vehicle was hit by an alleged drunk driver in Sussex County Sunday evening.
Shortly after 9 p.m. on Sunday, July 20, a Virginia State Police trooper was reportedly stopped on the side of General Mahone Highway at George Town Road in Sussex County with his emergency equipment activated when his vehicle was hit by another vehicle.
Police said the preliminary investigation revealed that the trooper's patrol vehicle was on the small shoulder area and right lane of westbound George Town Road when the driver of a 2005 Cadillac SUV, heading west, approached the patrol vehicle and made a sudden left turn, side swiping the patrol vehicle.
The SUV then crossed over the west and eastbound lanes, coming to rest on top of train tracks.
